More about St. Albert Alberta

St. Albert is a city in Alberta on the Sturgeon River just northwest of Edmonton. It is the second-largest city in the Edmonton Metro area and became a city back in 1904. It first received accolades when it was reached by the Canadian Northern Railway in 1906 but was originally separated from Edmonton by miles of farmland. When Edmonton's order expanded in the 1980s, St. Albert was immediately adjacent to the larger city on the south and eastern borders.

St. Albert is known for the St. Albert Grain Elevator Park featuring two historic grain elevators both constructed in the early 20th century. These historical landmarks are heritage buildings and sites constantly under restoration throughout the city. In 2009, the city approved a multistage plan for these heritage sites featuring the restoration of the grain elevators and an opening of both a Metis and French Canadian farm on adjacent lots by the river. (St. Albert was originally founded in 1816 as a Metis settlement (a population of mixed indigenous and Euro-American ancestry primarily around the Red and Saskatchewan Rivers)
